PLAY IN THE PARKS -SUMMER 2006

THE BENEFITS OF PLAY AND RECREATION ARE ENDLESS!!!
 

  SUMMER DAY CAMP 

Summer Fun at Cox Park and Community Center with lots of games, sports, arts/crafts, field trips, water days and new friends!  Program for children  5 � 11 years.   Counselor to child ratio 1: 12.   Where can you spend the summer playing in a 60 acre park, Hike the Greenbelt, Play Tennis, Basketball, Create Art, Experience Science, and just have fun!

 Camp Dates:  (1) June 5 � 30 and (2) July 5 � 28
Days/Time:  M-F, 7:30 � 5:30 p.m.
Camp Fee:  $337.50 resident or $362.50 non-resident (per 4 wk session above)
Don�t need a full-time camp then pick and choose your weeks for $90 per week!
All fees include your child�s activity fees!

 

SUMMER MINI-FUN CAMPS
Looking for something to cure summer-time boredom!  Collierville Parks and Recreation will have summer staff on site to supervise recreational games such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, box hockey, board games, and large group games.  Program for ages 5 � 14 years.  Groups will be formed for 5 � 11 years and 12-14 years.  Participants will need to bring a sack lunch and money for extra drinks and snacks.  SESSIONS: June 12 � 16,  June 19 � 23, June 26 � 30, July 10-14,  July 17 � 21, & July 24 � 28****DAYS/TIME: M-F, 10 A.M. � 2 P.M., FEE: $50 per week.

 
 

LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL CLINIC

  KIDZART

If you can dream, you can draw.  KidzArt summer camp will inspire kids to create and build self-confidence.  Students will start with basic drawing techniques and move on to explore several different art mediums including paint, charcoal, chalk and oil pastels.  Planned projects for the week include paper mache, sculpture and paper art.  Children ages 6 � 11 will create their own works of art with sculpture, paper mache, paper art, paints, chalk pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, and markers.  Max 20 per week/time slot.

CAMP SESSIONS:  (1) June 26 � 30 and  (2) July 24 � 28
TIMES:
  9:30 a.m. � 12 noon or 1:00 p.m. � 3:30 p.m.
WEEKLY FEE:
  $145.00; $125 for each additional sibling (includes materials/supplies).

Musical program for children/parents offered at the Collierville Community Center.

Kindermusik Village � stimulates your baby's growth through purposeful, engaging musical activities while celebrating and nurturing the remarkable bond you share.  In Kindermusik Our Time �, "Exploration Time" facilitates the discovery of instruments, textures, sounds, and movement. Language skills are fostered with singing and vocal play. Creative dancing to different musical "moods" affirms the urge to move. The anticipation and rewards of listening are introduced, and with turn-taking activities, social skills blossom.

 Session: January 28 � April 22, 2006 (No class March 18 and April 15)

KINDERMUSICK IMAGINE THAT!
Musical Program for children 3 � to 5 years

Between the ages of 3 1/2 to 5 years of age, a lot of developmental changes occur in your child. This is an all-important transition. At this age, the use of music is used to encourage early learning and creativity. Music is the means, not the goal. The goal is a more alive, creative, and able child.

 SIGN AND SING CLASSES   (6 months 3 yrs)            

Sign language curriculum for parents with hearing children ~  A different approach from other sign language programs. Through songs, toys, and loving playtime between you and your child, Kindermusik Sign & Sing shows you more than 50 signs your child can use to communicate with you. Using research-proven methods shown to speed language development in hearing children, you'll see how sign language can ease frustration and enhance long-term learning abilities for your child.

The Tennessee Twirlers, Inc. will offer a 12 week baton educational course at the Collierville Community Center.  Classes will be held on Tuesday

FIGURE SKATING CLUB OF MEMPHIS
 LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES

YOUNG REMBRANDTS ELEMENTARY DRAWING PROGRAM

Young Rembrandts Children's Drawing Program for ages 6 � 10 years combines a unique step-by-step method of teaching children how to draw while instilling life-long skills that lead to a child's overall personal success. Drawing is a learnable skill, therefore, each child, especially those with an interest in art, deserves the chance to be taught, just as they would be taught to read, write, add or subtract.

Stuff and Fluff Animal Workshops

 Children will enjoy a Saturday morning with Noah�s Ark Workshops creating a friend to take home to love.  Workshop will consist of hand stuffing a Moose or a Bunny, next you will �wish upon� and insert a rainbow star and zip it closed.  You will then name your new friend, create a customized birth certificate, dress them in a T-Shirt, and color a �Take Home Bag�.  Children will be read a story and a light snack will be served for the occasion.

HUNTER EDUCATION & RANGE FACILITY
TWRA has a new facility at 3200 Brother Blvd. in Bartlett. A new hunter education class will start the first Tuesday of every month. Call 213-3124 for more information.

 

PITNER DRIVING SCHOOL
The program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of actual driving. Must be at least 15 years old before/during the session.

Session: April 3 - 13 (No class April 14 - Good Friday)
Monday - Friday

Cost: $315  Payable to the Town of Collierville

Summer Camps

 

DRAWING AND COMPUTER ANIMATION CAMP

(Hands-On Art and Computer Camp)

Computer Tots and Young Rembrandts
are joining together to bring you a very exciting camp during Spring Break!  Together we will express our creativity through drawing and computer animation.  By the end of the week, students will be able to use their skills to create wonderful works of art both on paper and on the computer.  Sing up now to save your spot!

Digital Movie Maker
Use our special movie camera to record video clips of yourself and friends in small productions.  We will learn how to edit the clips, add text, graphics, and sound to create your own blockbuster!  We will also create a stop-motion animated movie using characters that the students create!  Students will take home their productions on a cd to share with family and friends.

Mixed Dry Media Drawing
Our class is great for children who want to learn how to draw and for those who want to better their drawing skills.  Our unique curriculum teaches children to draw just about anything using step-by-step instruction.  Once the drawing is complete, we then teach proper coloring technique in order to add color to their art work like a professional.  We will learn to draw a variety of things including animals, still lifes, landscapes and more using crayons, markers, colored pencils and oil pastels.  Each day we will draw something new.  All supplies are included!

Children ages 5 to 11 years (must have completed Kindergarten) can participate in fun-filled recreational games, arts and crafts, and special activities at H.W. Cox Park/Community Center.  Field trips include skating/bowling, Memphis Zoo, Pink Palace, Movie Theatre and more!  Counselor/child ratio~ 1:12Camp enrollment limited to 85 per session.

 

Camp Registration: February 27th- April 28th!

Community Center hours are Monday � Friday 8 a.m. � 5 p.m.

CAMP DATES
Session 1: June 5th - 30th (4 weeks)
Session 2: July 5th - 28th (4 weeks)
(no camp on July 3rd & 4th)

CAMP TIME
Monday - Friday; 7:30 am to 5:30 pm

FEES: (4 week sessions)
$337.50 (Collierville Resident) - $362.50 (Non-Resident)
$90 per week (advanced registration only)

Registration deadline April 28th (deposits due) ~ staff will be hired based on camp enrollment!!!

Applicants can pick-up a camp registration form/program schedule at the Collierville Community Center beginning February 27.  Registration is based on a first come/first serve with paid registration. A deposit of $75 (non-refundable) per session required to hold camp reservations.  Balance of fees due by May 19 for session one and June 19 for session 2. Weekly fees due in full to register by May 19 (limited spots per week). An additional fee of $25 per week /or per session will be charged after the registration deadline of May 19 and June 19.  All paperwork and payments need to be brought to the Community Center.
