We would like to welcome our new Special Services Coordinator, Elizabeth Allen, to our staff.  Our department is very excited to have Elizabeth on board. 

 

 

The Town of Collierville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department offers a variety of special events throughout that year and programs for children with special needs.  We will be looking to add programs for adult with special needs in the future.

Christmas Parade
Friday, December 2
Come enjoy the biggest Christmas event in Collierville! The parade route starts at Byhalia and Polo Run and ends at Frank Road near Collierville High School.

2006 EVENTS

 


Father/Daughter Date Night
Friday, February 3
Evening includes dinner, dancing, and lots of fun!  Registration begins Monday, January 10 at the Community Center.  Space is limited to the first 50 couples to purchase tickets.  If this number is not reached, the deadline is Friday, January 28.

Cost: $20/couple; $10 for each additional daughter.
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Place: Community Center
 



 

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt
Date: TBA
Participants are divided according to their ages.  Children ages 10 � 13 will begin the hunt at the Suggs Park pavilion and search the soccer fields. Children ages 14 � 16 will meet at the Suggs Park softball fields for their hunt.

Both groups will be searching for thousands of candy and prize-filled eggs.  Last year Funquest Entertainment Center, Memphis Redbirds, Malco Movie Theaters, Memphis Riverkings, Memphis Explorers, and the Town of Collierville all generously donated prizes.  Participants should meet at the correct location for their age no later that 8:30 p.m.  Participants should bring a flashlight and a basket or bag.  This is a rain or shine event so be sure to come prepared!

Collierville Youth Fishing Rodeo
sponsored by Back Yard Burgers and Strike King Lures

Enjoy a morning of fishing with your children 12 and younger.  All participants must pre-register.

In case of inclement weather, the Rodeo will be postponed.  To find out the status of the event, call Rec Check at 853-1212 or visit the front page of this website.  Signs will also be posted at WC Johnson Park.

What to Bring:  rod/reel, tackle & bait  (You may also want to bring a chair.)
Cost: Free!
Time: sign-in: starts at 7 a.m.
         fishing: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
         weigh-in: 11 a.m.

Independence Day Celebration
Sponsored by Landers Ford, the Town of Collierville & 94.1 the Buzz
 

Join us for the 21st annual celebration featuring entertainment, concessions, games, and an exciting fireworks display!  Fun for the entire family!  The fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.

** FREE shuttle service will be available from Collierville High School to the park.  Shuttle service will run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.  Those who live within close proximity to the park should travel the Greenbelt system.

Mother/Son Bowling Night

Enjoy a fun-filled evening with the young man in your life!  Event includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, drink and dessert.
Space is limited! 

Must register at the Community Center.  Please do NOT call the bowling alley to make reservations.

Time: 5:30 - 6 p.m.: Check-in, Pick-up Shoes, Lane Assignment

Therapeutic Recreation


 

Special Kids Bowling Club
meet at Funquest on Mondays to enjoy bowling in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.  All ages are welcome.

Date: 
September 26 - Dec. 5
(The Club will NOT meet on October 10 due to Fall Break.)

Time:  4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Cost:  $3/week (payable to Funquest each week) (includes shoe rental & 1 1/2 hours bowling)
*If you need an assistive device, please let us know in advance.


 

Spring & Fall Dances for Kids with Special Needs
For school-age children with special needs and their friends and family.  Music will be provided by a DJ and refreshments will be served.  Dress is casual.

Challenger Little League
For children 8 and older with special needs to learn the fundamental of baseball/softball.  Deadline to register is March 31.
 
Dates: Sundays, April 10, 17 & 24 and May 1, 7 (Saturday) & 15, 2005
Cost: $40 (includes a jersey)



 

Camp Smile
A place for children with disabilities ages 7 - 17 to enjoy the day camp experience.  Registration begins March 15.

Session 1: June 6 - 30
Session 2: July 6 - 29

(No camp July 1, 4 & 5)
Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Cost: $250/session
