New spray park hours (as of August 23, 2010): Tuesday & Thursday 9:00 a.m. to noon and Saturday & Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. SPRAY PARKS LOCATED AT W. C. JOHNSON AND SUGGS PARK WILL CLOSE SEPTEMBER 13, 2010. The last day of operation is September 12, 2010.

The Collierville Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Department believes that a park system should create a feeling of pride, a sense of value, a picture of beauty, a sense of belonging, and the challenge of developing skills and abilities while providing the opportunity to grow. To accomplish this goal, the Department delivers to the Citizens of Collierville a variety of well organized, supervised, and maintained recreation programs, opportunities, and facilities for leisure enjoyment.

The Collierville Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Department consist of 45 full-time employees, 4 part-time employees, while utilizing over 20 seasonal employees during the summer months. During FY 2011, the department operating budget will be at an all time high $4,082,497.00 with an additional $460,000.00 allocated for the Capital Investment Plan.

This past year was a year of growth and learning for the department. The Park Advisory Board completed the planning for Phase 1 A and B of HInton Park, as well as exploring the opportunity of using all weather athletic surfacing on some of our youth athetic fields. The department continues to expand beautification programs on town medians and through out The Town of Collierville establishing our position as the overall national Winner in "landscaping" during the 2009/10 America in Bloom program. The department also opened the new Tom Brooks Park located in the towns HIstoric District, completed a turf renovation program for the entire system, and completed an expansion of youth athletic practice facilities.

The Town of Collierville provides 18 regional, community and neighborhood parks, with over 750 acres of parkland, 30 athletic fields, 10 modular play structures, 12.5 miles of greenbelt trails, two aquatic spray parks, 9 acres of landscape beds, maintain over 74 miles of right-of-way, operate 55,000 square foot community center with contracted fitness center, and a 352 seat community theatre.

Emphasis in the future will focus on the continued planning and preparation for the development of Hinton Park, the addition of approximately 4.0 miles of greenbelt trail including hard surface and cross country wilderness, the installation of two all weather surface athletic fields at W. C. Johnson Park, management of the new Bess Crawford Morton White Church museum and vistors center, and continued improvements to the spray park system.
